   COMMANDER’S CORNER      Larry Zumwalt

15 or 20 American Legion motorcycles rumbled down Pony Express Trail on July the 4th flying flags, followed by a truck and trailer with Fleet Reserve, followed by a Marine Corp truck, followed by my buddies rat patrol Army jeep with the 30 cal on top, followed by a truck provided by Dennis Hass with 10165 & 2680 flying our colors, followed by a convertible carrying Tom McClintock…quite an impressive showing. McClintock's staff asked me to provide more Veterans for the parade and we all delivered. We wish to thank all of the Pollock Pines Community for inviting us Veterans to be in their parade and waiving all of our entry fees…if you have the time to write your Supervisors and City Council, you may wish to ask them why Placerville is the only town in our whole area that does not have a veteran's parade? They close the street for car shows, beer fests, gardeners, girls night, light festivals, art, jazz, homecoming, wagon trains, whatever…everything but for Veterans, claiming it costs too much for us…well the Pollock Pines Community welcomes us with open arms and will always be given priority on the 4th to show our appreciation. Please come out next year and show your support.
I would like to thank our breakfast crew and the Ladies Auxiliary for all their hard work serving 150 this last Sunday…great job. I want to thank Ann, Bob and Mike for manning the office 3 days a week. The other organizations should be able to keep it open on the 2 remaining days. You make us look good and provide a public service. I also want to thank Bernie for single-handedly representing 2680 and sounding taps for the family of Thomas Barwick WWII Army Air Corps. I also want to thank the 30 people that opted-out of the newsletter so far (to include the deceased veteran's families) that will continue reading it on line at: VFWpost2680.org, you are already saving us $13.20 per month (and thanks to Lawrence for the additional $10 donation). We will continue to make this option available to our new members and sending out paper copies to all of those that do not have computer access.
Please remember to say a prayer for our troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice in these recent months while on active duty in foreign wars… Sincerely, Larry z
